Emergency Management provides for activities related to saving lives and protecting property from natural, manmade and technological emergencies. Provision of an Emergency Management Program is mandated by Florida Statutes Chapter 252, and the Division serves the entire County. Emergency Management was transferred to the Leon County Sheriff's Office on May 1, 1999.
Emergency Management also provides for the direction and coordination of public safety related programs including management of EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS activities and management and operation of the county wide ENHANCED 9-1-1 System.
The Enhanced 9-1-1 Emergency Telephone System, established by the Board of County Commissioners in March 1989, has been operational since January 22, 1991. The system provides callers with one single number to call for emergency response, and is able to determine the caller's location without questioning the caller.
