The Bailiff Unit is unique in many ways, The Bailiff Unit strives to provide a high degree of courteous and professional security services to all persons involved in the judicial system and general public visiting the courthouse in Leon County. The Bailiff and Transport Units have implemented additional security plans designed to increase the overall security of the courthouse and the Thomasville Road Annex to insure the protection of all those that attend proceeding at these facilities. |
 | Bailiffs are law enforcement officers and as such respond to violations within and outside the courthouse. They make arrest, serve enforcement papers and perform random patrols within the courthouse and annex. They are responsible for the ingress and egress of the building to include monitoring of security cameras and conducting security checks. These bailiffs also provide security for judges, provide meals to jurors, take fingerprint, and take DNS swabs in addition to serving civil and criminal court process.
They provide security for all County Commission meetings. If a jury is sequestered, they make hotel arrangements for all jurors and remain with jurors to assure their safety and make sure they are not contacted or otherwise informed of information, outside the courtroom, involving the case for which they are serving as juror. A bailiff's responsibility can be quite stressful during high volume and /or high profile cases, and cases involving emotional issues such as family court or domestic injunctions.
The Transport Unit: involves the picking up of detainees from other states and jurisdictions as well as transporting those incarcerated to and from Leon County. |
This would include movements for court, medical appointments, state prisons runs, inter-jail movements as well as any other such movements involving county inmates.
